In the center of the castle and next to the Archaeological Museum is the Monastery of Ursuline .The purpose of establishing the school was to educate young Catholic girls. The foundation of the monastery is due to the actions of the abbot of the Jesuits on the island, which in 1639 began negotiations with the Brotherhood of St Ursula from Paris, to send some monks in Greece. At school the nuns taught the girls reading, writing, Christian indoctrination and handiwork. Today, a division of the School is still used for the Ursulines nuns who visit during the summer months, while the rest was restored by the Municipality of Naxos and is used for cultural reasons.
