The church of Panagia Protothroni is located in the village Chalki in the Tragaia area.
This is one of the oldest churches of transitional type in Naxos and dates back to the 9th century, while the architecture of the surviving parts of the temple prove that the temple was originally a basilica.
The church interior is decorated with murals and specifically with 5 layers of paintings which date back to the pre-Christian, Byzantine and post Byzantine period.
